Theatre Royal - Drury Lane, London (Jul 2025)
We previously reviewed this theatre and rated it 9/10.
However, having revisited it recently, I need to review the rating.
The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane is a very large theatre (approx. 2,200 seats) and has a good selection of Wheelchair Spaces. Row K, the Side Slips and sometimes Row B.
We still haven't sat in Row B, as the only time we had these seats, we were ill and couldn't go.
We recently attended to see Hercules and it was very busy. We have previously entered further down Russell Street (opposite the Fortune Theatre, where you go straight on to access the Auditorium.
However, on this occasion we were taken in the Side Door via the Main Foyer. It was absolutely chaotic in there and my husband felt somewhat vulnerable in his wheelchair. I am 5ft 2in and the staff member taking us to our seats, was so far ahead of us I thought she had left us, as I couldn't see her. It was difficult getting into the theatre and both my husband and I struggled to get people to let us through. It was a battle to get to our seats and no staff member really helped us, as there was no one with us.
There is a good view from every seat in the Stalls, which is where all Access Seats are located.
This theatre has an Accessible toilet near to the Access Seats.
We had an issue in the theatre and we were asked if we wanted to go to the bar for something, we refused, as we knew the bar was not Accessible. We now know that the bar there were referring to was a kiosk in the foyer, a place were a lot of the 2,200 people in the theatre were milling around to buy merchandise and get drinks from the bar. I think we made a good decision. There was no offer to get drinks or merchandise for us.
I would rate the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, now as 4/10
